Debra Young, LPC, CCHt, RYT500 is a Licensed Professional Counselor with a focus on wellness and mind-body psychotherapy. Debra divides her time between Charlotte, NC and Rock Hill, SC. She is a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist, and a Certified Yoga teacher who embodies a holistic approach to healing; combining counseling, health and wellness coaching, hypnosis, and meditation, along with 19 years of yoga practice and teaching experience, in order to facilitate positive change, growth and a sense of self-empowerment in her clients.

Since the early nineties, Debra has been exploring the premise that the mind and body cannot and must not be separated in the process of healing. She was an early student of Jon Kabat-Zinn who created and runs the Stress Reduction Clinic at University of Massachusetts Medical Center, and is the creator of MBSR, Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction. She also had the privilege of joining him in Sweden several years ago for a 10-day professional training and silent mindfulness retreat. As a graduate student, Debra interned with Dr. Dean Ornish during his initial pilot studies examining the relationship of diet, exercise and the role of mind-body-spirit in reversing heart disease. In order to further her understanding of the physiological aspects of healing, she chose to attend nursing school, completing all required clinicals at both UNC and Duke University hospitals. Although she is not a practicing RN, this experience informs her work with her clients and yoga students.

Through the years Debra has noticed a common thread running through her clients’ individual stories, and that theme is stress overload, ranging from mild to severe. Stress reduction and stress management lie at the core of Debra’s teachings with her group and individual clients. Debra loves facilitating group workshops, therapeutic groups, and working with individuals, pulling together all these many aspects of her personal and professional experience. The premise that wellness is achieved from healing mind, body and spirit lies at the core of her personal and professional philosophy of life and her approach to wellbeing.
